In February 2020, Qorvo acquired Custom MMIC, a company known for its best-in-class die and packaged components, which augment our power amplifiers to enable multi-chip modules for a broad range of defense, aerospace and commercial applications. Along with the acquisition, Qorvo also obtained Custom MMIC’s collection of insightful blog posts that provide trusted and useful information for designs using millimeter-wave circuits for satellite communications, radar systems, and cellular infrastructure applications. Below are abstracts for several of the blog posts with links to more in-depth information.

Helping to Eliminate the Mix-up over Mixers

With the release of subharmonic mixers, it’s important to understand the benefits of working with these products over fundamental mixers, particularly when mixing at very high frequencies. Here we explain the central differences between mixers and where subharmonic mixers come into play. Read more.

Distributed Amplifiers Are a Unique Circuit in High Frequency Microwave Engineering

The distributed, or wideband, amplifier is a unique circuit in high frequency microwave engineering, and often its architecture can be misunderstood. To help avoid confusion, we explain the inner workings of a distributed field effect transistor (FET) amplifier and how best to use this circuit in a microwave system. Read more.

Addressing Phase Noise Challenges in Radar and Communication Systems: Part 1

Phase noise is rapidly becoming the most critical factor addressed in sophisticated radar and communication systems. This is because it is the key parameter defining target acquisition in radars and spectral integrity in communication systems. Understand the generalities of phase noise and how it can affect the performance of different microwave systems. Read more.

Addressing Phase Noise Challenges in Radar and Communication Systems: Part 2

Phase noise is rapidly becoming the most critical factor addressed in sophisticated radar and communication systems. This is because it is the key parameter defining target acquisition in radars and spectral integrity in communication systems. In part 2 of this blog series, we examine what can be done to lessen the effects of phase noise in your microwave systems using Custom MMIC's solutions. Read more.
