Application Note Shows Step-by-step Procedures for biasing our Dual-, and Single-supply Amps.

Custom MMIC offers a helpful guide to single-supply, and dual-supply MMIC amplifier biasing techniques enabled with positive bias amplifier devices by our “Application Note 103: Amplifier Biasing Techniques.”

Nominally, two positive bias voltages are required to bias many of our positive bias MMIC devices, this Application Note describes a method of using a single-supply biasing scheme for these devices. Included in this note is a list of the applicable amplifiers, the biasing approach, and an example using the CMD163C4 device. Furthermore, the note includes a table that outlines the Vdd, Vgg, Igg, and target Idd bias conditions and the external resistance value desired to reach those conditions. An illuminating plot of CMD163C4’s S-parameters under the single-supply and dual-supply biasing schemes is also presented, showing a very slight performance impact of using a single-supply bias technique.
