Low Phase Noise Amplifier MMICs (LPNAs)

Low Phase Noise Amplifier (LPNA) MMICs Address Radar and Communication System Design Requirements

Unwanted phase noise (aka jitter) leads to poor signal integrity and loss of targets in military radar theaters, and can dramatically increase the effective bit-error-rate (BER) in data links. Meeting this challenge, Custom MMIC now offers a line of GaAs HBT RF / Microwave Low Phase Noise Amplifier (LPNA) MMICs. The line covers 6 to 40 GHz (C, X, Ku, K, and Ka band), with low phase noise performance down to -165 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset. Our LPNA MMICs can serve as Local Oscillator (LO) drivers or receiver amplifiers in a variety of phased array radar, EW, military radio, instrumentation, and aerospace and space communication designs needing phase noise or jitter reduced to absolute lowest levels. Available in either standard Pb-free RoHs compliant 4x4 QFN SMT package or Die, Custom MMIC’s low phase noise amplifiers exhibit low noise figures down to 3 dB and high linearity with OIP3 ratings as high as 29 dBm. Requiring bias currents as low as 28 mA, these wide bandwidth RF amplifiers demonstrate 18 dB of gain to 18 GHz, 17 dB of gain to 22 GHz, and 13 dB of gain to 40 GHz. Furthering the value to the system design engineer, these low phase noise amplifier leverage positive bias, or only require a single-positive supply voltage, and are based on 50 ohm matched designs.
